Eritrean Community for Justice - ECJ mission is building a more inclusive, sustainable, prosperous and democratic Eritrea whose administrations are accountable to its citizens. In recognition of this important mission, the main goals of ECJ include highlighting, resisting, protesting, persuading, defying, and intervening against tyranny in Eritrea. The Eritrean Community for Justice (ECJ) also works to promote dialogue among various Eritrean organizations on current challenges facing Eritrea and seeks to coordinate with other Eritrean communities to narrow down the differences to be able to arrive at a consensus platform.

Therefore, to jumpstart the event activities, ECJ sponsored a public demonstration, symposium, music concert and networking meeting in May 2019 in Washington, DC. The two days events involved 2800 participants (2200 Demonstration and 600 Symposium) from a wide variety of North America cities.

There’s no doubt that the event was a resounding success. The board of ECJ Washington DC Metropolitan would like to congratulate and thank all those who worked long hours to make this event successful. The planning, execution and participation at the event showed that the Eritrean people are fed up with the brutal dictatorship currently ruling the country.

The success of this event didn’t occur in a vacuum. The responsibility of conducting the event was given to ECJ Washington DC Metropolitan of the host city, Washington DC.

The preparation began by grouping volunteers into four local subcommittees including media/mobilization, fundraising, entertainment and demonstration. The subcommittees consisted of rank and file ECJ members including the elected board of directors, and this form of organization paid its dividends.

All the subcommittees were able to achieve their goals. As the host city, in addition to providing the proper venue for the symposium, ECJ played a key role in the formation of the North America Eritrean “Yiakil Bayto” composed of representatives from thirty five cities. The event was concluded with a memorable concert by famous Eritrean singers on Saturday night as well as a picnic on Sunday.

As everyone may expect, the fundraising team is still working on financial issues and will release a separate financial report to the public as soon as it finishes its work.
